Ambient Temperature Ratings for VFDs
Overview
When initially selecting and sizing a VFD, it is important to consider the ambient temperature since the drive series and load type (variable torque or constant torque) may have different ratings. A derate may be necessary with high ambient temperature as well. It’s best to measure the ambient temperature 2″ away from the drive as pictured below. Also, no ice or frost should be present on or surrounding the drive.
Ratings
H100+
- Heavy Duty: -10ºC~50ºC without derating for 0.75~90kW models. For 110~500kW models, ratings are the same as normal duty.
- Normal Duty: -10ºC~50ºC (derate 2.5% for every 1ºC above 40ºC). See below.
iS7
- Heavy Duty: -10ºC~50ºC.
- Normal Duty: -10ºC~50ºC (derate 2% for every 1ºC above 40ºC). See below.
S100
- Heavy Duty: -10ºC~50ºC.
- Normal Duty: -10ºC~50ºC (derate 2% for every 1ºC above 40ºC). See below.
- IP66 (NEMA 4X): -10ºC~40ºC.
- Side-by-Side: This is only applicable for 0.4-22kW IP20 models. Refer to graph below.
G100
- Heavy Duty: -10ºC~50ºC.
- Normal Duty: -10ºC~50ºC (derate 2% for every 1ºC above 40ºC). See below.
M100
- Heavy Duty: -10ºC~50ºC.
- Side-by-Side: Refer to the graph below.
